THE closing date for bids to buy Carr Lodge Park mansion house has passed.
And it is hoped that the Wakefield Council-owned grade II listed building, which is currently boarded up, could be used to benefit the town.
Mike Smith, chairman of the Friends of Carr Lodge Park, said: "The council has had a vast amount of interest. Obviously they couldn't discuss it further because it's a sealed bid system but they expect to have a number of bids."
Mr Smith said that local groups, including the friends group and the Horbury Heritage Trust, would be consulted about the sale.
Any future plans will go on public display in Horbury Library, on Westfield Road.
Coun Graham Jesty said: "All three councillors will watch what happens with the sale like a hawk. We're very keen to see it developed into something that is appropriate for the town and not something that the community doesn't want."
