Plans are in place to pull down Trinity Methodist Church and build a community garden within its foot print.

It has not been used for two years after problems with heating and maintenance costs forced worshippers to hold services in the church hall, at the back of the church, on Netherton Lane.

Susan Wood, church treasurer, said: “We can’t afford to maintain the two buildings so it has been decided that it will be more economical to retain the church hall.

“Once the church is taken down, we’re going to build a garden on the site which will be there for anybody to use, to sit in or have a bit of peace and quiet or do whatever they wish to do.

“The church walls will be retained so the garden will sit within the footprint of the church.”

The church is due to be demolished later this year.

Once that work has been completed improvements will be made to the church hall to make it more suitable for worship and community use.

The church will be open for items to be viewed, with a view to buying, on Saturday, March 13, between 1pm and 3pm.
